Do you ever have days when your breasts appear to be slightly larger than usual? Or if you're experiencing breast tenderness? These changes could be due to your menstrual cycle. Hormones, which are responsible for breast growth, have an effect on them during your cycle as well. Breast swelling and pain during, after, and before your periods may be caused by hormonal changes during your menstrual cycle, which is completely normal.

When oestrogen levels rise early in the cycle and peak shortly before mid-cycle, breast ducts expand in size, whereas progesterone levels peak around the 21st day (in a 28-day cycle to promote the development of breast lobules or milk glands. Premenstrual syndrome is typically characterised by breast enlargement prior to menstruation (PMS). Continue reading to learn about the various breast changes that occur during the various phases of your menstrual cycle.

PHASE 1:- During the first few days of your cycle, when menstruation begins, the texture of your breasts may feel uneven and nodular. Breasts may feel lumpier during menstruation as milk glands swell in preparation for a possible pregnancy. The rough sensation isn't long-lasting, and the breasts will smooth out once your body knows you're not pregnant.

PHASE 2:- Depending on the length of your cycle, your breasts suddenly shrink at the end of menstruation, which is usually around day 3 or 7. Because oestrogen and progesterone levels are at their lowest during this time, breasts have the smallest volume, and because you're not being pumped up with hormones, this is the most accurate representation of your breasts' true size. The fact that they are smaller means that they soften up towards the end of your period.

PHASE 3:- They're springy! Oestrogen levels start to rise as you get closer to follicular phase ovulation, which happens around day 12. Because oestrogen promotes skin flexibility, the breasts may appear perkier. You could think of it as a natural lift!

PHASE 4:- Firmer and larger breasts can be seen during the luteal phase, which occurs after ovulation. As progesterone levels rise, the breasts become densest and largest. Having comfortable bras on hand will be useful at this time.

PHASE 5:- Breasts become slightly uneven when oestrogen levels are low during the premenstrual week, according to research. You may notice that your breasts are asymmetrical, but don't worry, this will return to normal once your period begins. Aside from the monthly ebb and flow of hormones, there are other reasons why you may notice changes in your breasts. Some of these include a high carbohydrate intake, which causes insulin production and, as a result, fluid retention in the breasts. Caffeine is another cause of knotty breasts, which occurs due to sensitivity in the breast tissue, which can sometimes be painful.

NORMAL CHANGES:-

Every woman is unique, and the impact of the menstrual cycle varies from person to person. Having said that, breast changes during periods are quite common in the majority of women, and you may experience one or more of the following symptoms: swelling, tenderness, soreness, aching, breast pain before the period, and size changes. It is possible that your breasts will be sore or that you will have fuller breasts after your cycle.
